Zanthoxylum Oil

Zanthoxylum alatum

Benefit:

Natural

One might think that zanthoxylum is the name of a cough syrup, but it’s not! Even if, fun fact, the little berries can indeed be consumed to calm down sore throats, they are also used in perfumery after being steam distilled into an oil for their pungent, citrusy and floral aroma.

Zanthoxylum Oil

The winged prickly ash (Zanthoxylum alatum) is a shrub growing from the Himalayas to China bearing clusters of little berries that can be dried and used as a spice, like pepper. In fact, the more widely known Sichuan pepper grows on a shrub from the same genus.

Lush purchase the spicy oil in Nepal, where it grows in abundance between 1100m and 2500m altitude.
