Is raspberry seed oil a natural sunscreen?

Although the sun is essential for life, the ultraviolet (UV) radiation it emits can cause all sorts of damage to human health. Not to mention the much higher risk of cancer, UVA exposure penetrates the skin and causes degradation of collagen and elastin fibres which leads to premature ageing, while UVB exposure causes burns and redness.

That’s why we should always enjoy sun exposure in moderation and cover ourselves with clothes and hats as the first line of defence. When this is not possible, sunscreen can come in very handy. Studies suggest that raspberry seed oil offers some protection against UVA and UVB rays. It combines well with synthetic sunscreens such as butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane for even better results.

Don't forget to protect your head! We rarely think about our hair and scalp when it comes to sun damage, but after all, the head is the part of the body that’s the closest to the sun and is thus inevitably the most likely to burn. Sun exposure can leave the scalp red, sore, and irritated and can also lead to dry, frizzy hair and colour fade.
