Brandy
Brandy is a type of grape alcohol made by distilling wine. As a matter of fact, the name brandy comes from the Dutch ‘brandewijn’, meaning ‘burnt wine’. It can, however, be made from other fruits such as cherries and apples. Aged in wooden barrels, its colour ranges from pale to caramel brown, depending on the production method.
Commercial brandy production started around the 16th century. Not only appreciated for its taste, it was also one of the first bases for cure-all tonics and colognes, made by various monasteries that had perfected the art of distillation.
